OF A DAY IN A LIFE

12.16.99

    I wore big pants.

Well, they're not really too big. They've got bigger legs and cuffs than I have ever worn. I feel like a little gangsta wannabe skater chick with painted on eyebrows. Well, not really. I'm sure they're not huge and that I won't be mistaken for a wayward youth but yet....

I got them in DC at this store called Galyon's. (Kinda sounds like they specialize in giant pants, doesn't it?) They fit really nicely through the waist and hips and the jeans material is nice and soft — pliable. They are the perfect length. However, it seems like they cover up too much of my shoes. I keep staring at my feet when I walk and I think I might eventually run into something. My feet are fairly small, or so I'm told. Sometimes, they look huge to me. Sometimes, I trip over my feet and at that point it doesn't matter what size they are because I feel like an ass. In these jeans, though, they look really small.

    I kicked a worm.

It was really very long and sort of a brownish color and I thought it was a stick. Why I felt the need — walking all along by myself — to kick a stick is beyond me. I was probably looking at my feet or I wouldn't have noticed this worm at all. So, I kicked this stick and the stick went sqwooosh.

    I felt so bad.

When I was a kid I used to "save" the worms from an untimely demise on sidewalks and drains. I used to pluck snails from the thorny bushes behind the apartments in Germany where my best-bud Rocky and I would play robber barons and hide from our parents. I used to catch the tiniest of frogs beyond the cul-de-sac and along the creek in Biloxi. The smallest frog I ever caught fit on my thumbnail. The biggest frog I ever saw lived for a time in our garden and was really a toad. I think back and I think he was the size of a basketball but I was smaller then so he was probably the size of a softball.

Anyway, I guess the misting Oregon rain we got today coaxed out this giantess of a worm. Poor worm. *sqwoooosh*

    I laughed till I cried.

As soon as I got home from work I turned around and picked up Chels at Byrne's and took her over to dinner with a few of The Girls. She's in town to visit her family for a holiday and took just a little bit of time to hang out. We went to Red Robin way the heck over in Beaverton and had a blast. We always laugh so hard.

    And that was my day.
