A Theatrical Moment

Sitting at my desk, right here, trying to write my Personal Statement (gah!), Dave Brubeck's "Time Out" playing and looking up at the crescendo to see the tree outside my window wildly twisting and just flinging off spent yellow and orange leaves to the music.

Excerpt

Adam Gopnik, on banding together with other Frenchies to save a beloved small brasserie from homogenization in Paris to the Moon:

"I eat dinner at the Balzar—as it is and was, and not some improved, Flo Group version. I realize that one of the tricks of capatalism is to lure you into a misleadingy unreciprocated love with a cash register, but what impressed me about my friends in the Balzar war was that they weren't prepared to treat their attachment to the Balzar as somehow less real than the cash register's attachment to it."

Decline of Civilization

Been thinking a lot lately about consumerism, products, packaging, garbage heaps, recycling and where certain things fit into the big cycle. Somehow this seem to tie in with all of that. I don't even know what to say about that.
