Presents Had a lovely evening last night: dinner with Steph and Nick (spaghetti -- which we always seem to have when they come over) a couple bottles of wine and presents! We got Nick a cigarette-dispensing donkey from Archie McFee. You waggle its ear and the cigarette comes out of his...ass. We actually got to go to the McFee store up in Seattle when we visited a few weeks ago. It was quite a treat. And lest you think we're complete trash, we also got him a gift certificate to Utrecht art supply. Nick does all sorts of painting and drawing and sculpture. Steph got a swanky sweater from us and the AllRecipes.com top-300 recipes book. I knew she was a big fan of the site. And, frankly, any .com that is loved should be supported right now. She looked pretty happy with the book. She got me a travel coffee mug, one of those tall things with a snap-close top. I'm unnaturally pleased with this gift. She also got me a gift cert to Powell's. Mmmmmm...Powell's. I love Powell's. [As an aside, she gave me a very generous gift certificate to Ann Taylor last year for Christmas. I realized that I hadn't used it yet but had lost the email with the info in it. So I emailed them and told them my name and her name and the amount and the address it was sent to and within a day got a response with the gift code. So, I rushed right over to their site and noticed they were having a cashmere sale. With the certificate and an extra 10 bucks from me, I got a blue cashmere scarf, hat and gloves set. But, after I submitted my order I noticed that it didn't appear that the certificate was being applied. I sent them an email right away and got a response the next day. The person said: no problem, the certificate has been applied and your charge should be X and you'll get your packages on this date and, by the way, you're going to love your cashmere items -- they're really adorable. There's just nothing like really good customer service. Frankly, it made my day.] T. gave me one of my large gifts -- a work table for my office. I had cleared out a large space so I could put a table in there but I figured it would be awhile before I was actually able to do that. I can't wait to set it up. So, nothing like presents to put one in a better holiday mood. + + + Heading out today for DC to hang with T.'s folks and visit some galleries. I may post along the way. I'm gearing up for fun family holiday fun. Did I mention fun? 12.17.2001
No more Christmas. Bah humbug. Where's my martini?
The interview went well. It's a full-time on-site contract for three months starting in January. That would be cool. I like the company. Keep your fingers crossed for me. 12.16.2001
Hey, look at that Just got my grades for the term: one B and two A's. The B was in Art History which was expected. I wasn't sure what I would get for the other classes, Drawing and Basic Design. Ugh. That Design class just about killed me. Bleh. Would love to launch back into classes come January but I suspect that is not to be. However, on the plus side, I'm off Monday to meet some people regarding a potential design contract that begins in January. So, keep your fingers crossed. Today, I'm putting together some more impressive (I hope) images for my portfolio. I've never included concepts before and that's what I need to do. They may not show up publicly on my site but some of my more dishy stuff never gets bought by the client. |
