I N T H E N I G H T K I T C H E N
The WeekendLeft for Seattle Friday afternoon. I had a blast driving up. I sang loudly to my music. I munched on munchies. I enjoyed the freedom and alone-time and didn't think much at all about anything else other than the open road.
I met up with Sylvia (a long-time friend who was in Seattle for a wedding) and crashed her cousin's rehersal dinner which seemed okay because everyone was really nice. I even got a kiss from an old man who mistook me for someone else. And, while he was embarassed when the mistake was pointed out, he thanked me for allowing the kiss. It was pretty adorable. The couple getting married made some wonderful speeches and it was fun.
Afterwards, Sylvia and I went out salsa dancing at China Harbor -- a rundown restaurant with a dancefloor in the back. I'm not a salsa dancer so she showed me a few steps and I danced a few songs with a swarthy Peruvian man who started to get a little too close for my comfort. It was really fun watching the people there and the music was interesting. Sylvia is a pro at the salsa and looked awesome and danced with a few really talented guys. The scene was very multi-ethnic which was a nice change of pace from the sometimes too-white Portland crowd.
We got in at about 3 a.m. and then chatted for awhile before passing out.
I left her in the morning and got coffee and then lunch with an old friend and her husband. She and I had a falling out a few years ago and we just recently have become reaquainted. I had a good time catching up with her and wandering around doing a little shopping.
At about 3 p.m., I headed back to Portland and went straight to another thing with some friends, one of whom is getting married next weekend. It was a small group and we hung around drinking froofy drinks and listening to music and telling funny stories. About midnight I finally came home to find T. here, still up, and my office put into some semblance of order. The computer is here and it works and I'm stoked. It came with the wrong OS, though. I could kill Dell.
