Good News

We got the apartment. Signed a lease. Got the keys. I got the first semi-decent night's sleep last night in over a week.

The computer is trying to kill me again by crashing repeatedly, so I need to make this short. I did manage to update the design of my portfolio between crashes but there's still tons of work to be done on it that just can't be done until my system becomes more stable. I need to add the pop-ups to the big screenshots. I need to add a link to my resume. I need to build the flash and logo sections and I need to change the title as I do much more than "web work" these days.

Remind me to tell you about the Web Visions "conference" I went to this week.

My mom arrives tomorrow to spend a week with us. She says she's going to help us pack. I want to say "eep" but I know she's going to be the queen of the kitchen packing.

Any updates for the next will be sporadic if they happen at all. Stay tuned and thanks for the various words of encouragement as I struggle not to lose my freaking mind.

Is it a Monday?

I'm not arguing that with you.

I know he can get the job. The question is: can he do the job?

No, it's not a Monday it's a Tuesday. Tuesdays can actually be worse.

Sigh of Exasperation

So, we don't have the apartment... yet. I thought it was a clincher when we met her on Saturday and turned in our application. I called and offered to bring over a check for the full amount. She was having an open house on Sunday and I thought I'd spare her the trouble. When we had not heard from her by 2 we headed over to the place to see what was up. She was there and having an open house. I heard her tell someone else that she had six good applications.

I think, by law, they are required to take the first eligible application. However, if she doesn't pick us, I can't imagine I'll be so inclined to do much about it. The thought of continuing our housing search fills me with dread. We actually have another application in for a place not too far up the road from us. I don't want to live there though. I submitted an application to humor T. I suppose that was not such a good idea.

All night last night, I dreamed about the place and it's various ugly bits. Every downside I dreamed up, I responded with, "It's okay, design will fix it." I don't know what that means.

Anyway, cross your fingers for us, I really want this place and I'm going to be livid if we don't get it.

Better

Yesterday, T. and I ended up at "Lloyd's BBQ Blues Music Festival" in the Mt. Saint Helens area to see Buddy Guy and B.B. King. Our friend Lonnie, who was saw at a party Friday night, had won tickets and couldn't seem to give them away.

The "festival" itself was kind of lame. The BBQ was tepid, they made us dump our water but didn't provide any more; the first three acts were very short and the sound for Buddy Guy was really awful. He did a short set, too, and we wondered if he wasn't pissed off.

The people-watching was tops -- such a cross-section of Americana. The mullet count was high as were the cowboy boots and flannel shirts. There was a Harley contingent, complete with leather chaps and a few crunchy hippies in there but not as many as I would have thought. There was a slew of yuppies but they were more than balanced by those with tattoos and feathered hair. Lordy. I was glad when it started getting dark because these people were just too distracting.

B.B. King's performance made it worth every moment. He is such a showman and such a joy to watch and listen to. I'm so grateful that I got to see him while he's still performing. I have some digital pics but they'll have to wait.

In other news, T. and I think we've found our apartment. It's kind of ugly. It has a small kitchen. It has very little exterior space but it's the right size, in the right place and for the right amount. We finally managed to get to a place before other people. It's sick how fast people jump on places.

We got up early Saturday morning to get to an open house at 10 a.m. We got there at 9:20 and there were already people there! We put in an application, but the lady that was there said she already had ten so I don't know what the heck she was thinking putting on an open house. That place had a garage which would have been super-duper but the lawn was horrible. I really didn't want to take care of that lawn.

Today, I'm going to do a few drive-bys and then I think we'll drop a check off over at this place. T. and I both have a good feeling about it.

Now we just have to tackle packing and moving... ugh.
