Is there nothing more perfect than the sound of granulated sugar breaking the surface of a cup of hot, fresh coffee?

It's a gorgeous day outside. The leaves are in full color but there are plenty of brown ones on the sidewalk. It's cold. Really cold. None of that pretend cold where if you hustle you can make it to the mailbox and back in shorts and a t-shirt without shivering too much. Nope -- it's cold.

I think T. and I are going to go shopping downtown. Maybe I'll even buy some early Christmas gifts. It's too nice to stay in today.

This week was very busy. I'm on a project (finally) and this week was for the first round of designs. As it turned out, I really only had four days to come up with at least two designs. I needed (need) about three more days of working time. But, we're presenting on Monday up in Seattle so there is no more time. One of my designs is pretty close to the small amount of information we've gotten from the client but I'm not all that jazzed about it. It's... okay. It's not corporate enough, in my opinion. I just couldn't come up with anything good. I really couldn't.

Around Thursday morning I got sick of dinking around in Photoshop creating crap so I decided to do a really massive design. I've been wanting to do something in the Russion Constructivist style for awhile now and I figured I'd give it a go. What turned out was pretty damn good. It's loud and alive and vibrant. It incorporates the company's imagery with a slightly cheeky style. I dig it. All it needs is a really kick-ass font treatment and I'd be proud of it.

Will the client go for it? The rational side of me says 'no'. The optimist says that if they went with it, they wouldn't be sorry. It's a leap; a risk. But, it would be memorable. Way more memorable than the other designs we have going.

After we did a quick IR (internal review) of the designs Friday morning, I was tasked with coming up with something more light and ethereal. I had about four hours. I tried. I couldn't do it. The juices just weren't there for that on demand. One of the other designers came up with a light design which is really conservative but also lovely. I was a bit embarrassed that I couldn't do the same. I don't know if it was deadline or topic matter or what but nothing I was putting down looked good. At least not to me. I was too scared of being conservative. Who stole my mojo?

The party was a success. I'm tired.
