OF SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
7.15.98 I have been so busy and overwhelmed. All last week T. and I were housesitting out in North Hollywood. On Wedensday I got a call from one of the places I interviewed. The company is SOMA or Society of Multidisciplinary Artists and they are a design firm. Basically, they make all sorts of things: CD-Roms, posters, media kits, press releases and just about anything else that can use an artistic touch. I am completely honored to work there. It's not actually a full-time job. In fact, they are just "testing me" right now. So, for a week I get to play artist and I have a lot to learn. Going to work there would be just like going back to school. The first thing I worked on was a media kit for an upcoming Disney movie. They were already in full-swing with it but I was able to contribute a bit, wrangle with a couple graphics and provide copy for it. This is not your average press kit. What they turned up with was a book, bound in a heavy fibrous paper and a delicate, burgundy ribbon with scenes from the movie interspersed with wild cover sheets on acetate. I have now also done some writing for another project, graphics for a web page and a little commercial photography. I should get back the negatives today for the pictures I took... I really, really, really hope they come out. It has been almost a year since I have done any of my photography and I was a little nervous. Eek! On top of that I have had more wedding crap and I'm so behind on things that I have to do. The best part about this whole week-long trial thing is that I have almost no commute. It's heavenly, absolutely heavenly. Gotta head out to work now. Hopefully, there will be more dancing tonight. æ |
