OF SLUSH ANGELS

1.11.00

It snowed today. But, not enough.

When I left for work this morning it was coming down in great globs of slush. A little later it started sticking. I sent an email invite around the office to make snow angels in the parking lot. No one took me up on it. Then it got a little warmer and it all melted. It's supposed to snow on Thursday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Nothing better than a snow day.

So, did you hear that AOL bought Time Warner? Time Warner is owned by AOL. I swear that the news people had it backwards when the story first broke. I had it backwards. I only realized this morning what was really going on. The mind boggles.

Did you see Malcolm in the Middle on Sunday night? T. and I watched. I thought it was pretty good. A little different. It has potential. Someone described it as similar to Parker Lewis Can't Lose which was one of my favorite shows. It has that zippy scene-to-scene thing going on and also the audience-addressing. ("Breaking the fourth wall"?) I don't know how super-keen I am on that but I'll watch the show again. After all, what am I to do with Buffy still in reruns? Who do they think they are — X-Files?

I bought two CDs today: Martin Denny's "Exotica I/Exotica II", and Billie Holiday's "Greatest Hits." The Denny stuff is a blast. I think this man is nearly single-handedly responsible for the popularity of the Tiki Torch today. He had his first hits in the 1950s and his music is full of vocal bird calls and frogs and is pseudo-surf mish-mash. After listening to the whole CD (which I really like) I wonder if he didn't do some soundtracks for those Disney nature movies. Remember the ones with the anthropomorphised animals and cheesy narration? I loved those. Listen to #15, "Japanese Farewell Song", on that Amazon link to hear what I'm talking about. It makes me want to go out and rent Endless Summer.
