OF LLAMAS

12.1.99

Sorry for the long delay in writing. I've been on Thanksgiving holiday. If you're on my list you got a couple of semi-coherant ramblings but that's about it. I had written a third, quite lengthy email entry but my computer crashed between the second paragraph and the sixth and I hadn't been saving. Since the first two paragraphs weren't that funny and I didn't feel like writing again, I didn't. Fascinating, no?

The short, short version:

    T. and I went East to stay with the Inlaws for the Thanksgiving break. We ate much turkey and stuffing. We visited the White House, the Smithsonian American History Museum which was interesting but underwhelming and the National Archive where we ogled important historical documents and viewed an impressive and moving photographical display of our nation's history.

We met up with friends from his high school and my college for drinks and match-making. His mother threw an open house/delayed wedding reception and kindly refrained from forcing me into my wedding dress. Like that would ever happen. I had several meandering conversations with some very lovely and well-meaning people who I probably will never see again and one very bizarre chat with a fellow concerned about llamas.

He: You know, a llama is not a horse.
Me: I know.
He: Well, what is it?
Me: Um... perhaps related to the camel?
He: But, what are they for?
Me: I think there's some sort of sweater?
He: Wool!
Me: No, that's sheep.
The Wife: Honey, HONEY! You're not saying it right. It's YA-mas. YAAAAMAS. It's Spanish!!
Me: Oh dear, I seemed to have finished my drink....

Then we boarded a plane which arrived in Las Vegas at midnight and didn't leave till 3:45 a.m. of the morning. We won no money at all. We dropped into bed at our apartment at 5:30 a.m. of the morning. If it weren't for the red-eye flight, I'd feel really rested right now. But, I'm not.
