OF MILKSHAKES WITH KICK
9.26.98 What an absolutely draining week. I've finished my first week working from home and I feel so tired. Actually, right at this moment I feel pretty chipper since T. and I lazily slept in till noon. We haven't done that in months. My alarm even went off at 8:30 (set from the day before) and I just rolled over and shut it off. There's plenty of things we could do today but why fret? Working from home has its advantages and disadvantages. I can wear whatever I want. I don't have to share the coffee. I can also meet T. for lunch or have lunch with him here. However, it takes away the sanctity of the home. I live here and I work here -- ugh. It also makes me sick of my computer. I will have to get a proper desk chair if I'm going to keep doing this. My desk is just perfect otherwise. When T. got home from work yesterday he just wanted to veg and watch the tube. I wanna go out! I wanna go out! So, he dutifully took me on a drive up Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. I hadn't done that drive yet and I really wanted to see the houses. We were treated to a fairly exemplary sunset and lots of houses, lined up like cigarette boxes. Some of these houses are amazing. They cling to the hillside forcing their many windows towards the horizon. Most of them are modular although you get the occasional hacienda with orange-tiled roofs. It made me wonder again about what it would be like to have money in this town. I felt like a pet. You know, put the dog in the car for a ride and it goes nuts. That was me. Ooh -- look at that! Look over there! What's that?! I think I drove T. nuts. In fact, he got more sullen as the drive went on and eventually we turned back. His demeanor brightened with dinner (steaks cooked up on our very, very tiny grill) and drinks. We picked up some margarita mix at the store and some ice-cream. We used the ice-cream to make chocolate black russians. Basically, you combine 1½ oz of Kahlúa, a ½ oz of Vodka and five oz of chocolate ice-cream in a blender and then serve. Pretty darn tasty, if you ask me. Milkshakes with kick. Then we watched The Full Monty and Gross Pointe Blank so that we could record them. We have movie channels for another week so we're trying to nab all the good ones. Have you seen Gross Pointe Blank? It's such a good movie and I just don't know why. At the end of it I asked T. what the movie was about and he didn't know either. It's fast-paced, funny, cynical and stars John and Joan Cusak. Can anything be better? Lloyd Dobler man of my dreams. We might go to Universal City Walk if we can drag ourselves out the door. Or, we might just sit and read the paper all day. *Yawn* æ |
