I've been working with Flash since version 2.0. I prefer working on the front-end, designing interfaces and animations that engage the viewer and capture their attention. I love what Flash has done for this medium.

Currently, I teach the beginning Flash class at Pacific Northwest College of Art. I'm really enjoying getting people into the program, on their feet and hopefully running.

To celebrate the redesign of one of their top-selling cameras, Logitech wanted very eye-catching banner ads that showed off the new look — a very personable device with "feet," a visor, and a big grin.

One of the biggest challenge was creating a rich animation while keeping the file size under the 20k benchmark. This meant hours of reducing graphics and trying various tricks to ensure that it would download fast. Read on for more....

My process with these was to take their message "Get Closer" and brainstorm how these characters could interact to reach the biggest market — online dating. We went through a number of different ideas and story lines and finally settled on the two you see here, Disco Dancin, and That's Amore.

I photographed the cams and then took them into Flash to optimize them. The cams are treated slightly differently in each set of banners. In Disco they look a little more funky and in Amore I re-rendered them from scratch in Flash.

Character Animation, Educational
I created this relatively simple animation as an example for the students in my Flash class. We were discussing character animation and I wanted them to get an idea of how to imbue inanimate shapes with a sense of life. I was also showing them tweening, timing, and easing -- important techniques to master in animation.

I put this here in my portfolio mostly because I think it's fun and makes me smile.

More samples of my Flash work are coming soon!
